DECEMBER Star Wars: Rebels caught at the wrong place at the wrong time!

The premiere of the latest tale in the Star Wars saga, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is just a few weeks away! We can't contain our excitement an longer--we need some Star Wars RPG action!

Game master Matt Towle returns to run one of his favorite systems--Star Wars Roleplaying Game (Second Edition) by West End Games. Remember when Princess Leia seemingly gave up her pals to Governor Tarkin on the Death Star? It seemed as if she'd ratted out the location of the rebel base. Luckily for her Tarkin wasn't into blasting Dantooine just then. But you better believe he followed up on that tip--and woe to any rebel who didn't get the message to stay away!

Here's a synopsis for Matt's original, one-shot adventure: LAST CALL ON DANTOOINE!
A team of out-of-touch rebels arrive at the main rebel base on Dantooine, months after the Alliance has moved on. It won't be long before they have a little company--Imperial company! A free-form adventure that might lead anywhere, from the badlands of Dantooine to the spice mines of Kessel!
Can your team of rebels survive on the run from Imperials?

Concept art by Ralph McQuarrie

What other dangers await you if you escape the doomed rebel outpost? Climb aboard and find out!

FAR TREK! Bring Back Vulcan!

UPDATE: Far Trek has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 10 at Fantasy Flight Games.

Our tribute to everything Trek continues! This time it's an old favorite with a new twist as game master John Till leads a session of Far Trek, an indy, fan-created RPG set in the original era of the Star Trek universe. It combines material from 60s TV series, plus the 70s animated series, and various other sources.

The twist is the adventure itself--set in the Kelvin timeline of the new films. But everything still looks like the classic Trek you know and love. Here's the mission brief for his original adventure, BRING BACK VULCAN:
Can Romulans and the Federation work together to reverse the greatest disaster in the history of the Alpha Quadrant? See for yourself, as teams from both civilizations come together to rescue the Vulcan homeworld from oblivion.
Will the crew succeed in their plan to help the Vulcan race live long and prosper?

Beam up and join us to find out!

NOV 5 - FASA Star Trek: "A Matter of Honor" starring the GORN!

YIKES--almost forgot to remind everyone that this coming Saturday is a new adventure aboard the USS Excalibur, with game master Erik Mornes! Join us for a stand off with the Gorn, everyone's favorite bug-eyed space reptiles in STAR TREK: EXCALIBUR - A MATTER OF HONOR!

This is a "Next Trek" adventure, set in the Next Generation timeline, aboard an AMBASSADOR Class starship (think Enterprise C). So the Gorn may not be as slothful as their original era counterparts!

Here's the mission brief:
Although the Federation and the Gorn Alliance have maintained an uneasy truce for a century, a band of Gorn renegades have been raiding Federation shipping, threatening to jeopardize the peace. The Alliance is unwilling to allow Starfleet to operate against the renegades, without first giving them the option to willingly cease hostilities. Therefore, USS Excalibur has been dispatched to transport a Gorn envoy to deliver an ultimatum to the renegades ... as a matter of honor!

SEPT 24: Diaspora Fate kicks off with NODE STATION ZETO

As if September and October weren't packed enough already, we've added another new space opera game to the calendar. We're welcoming a new game master, Patrick Schifano to the table to run an original adventure called NODE STATION ZETO!

He'll be using Diaspora rules for Fate 3.0. Diaspora is a hard science fiction setting. Visit the official Diaspora website to learn more. The publishers have also posted a nice primer on Fate. Here's a brief from Patrick on the setting:
The general setting of Diaspora is a universe where interstellar human civilizations rise, fall, and rise again. Often the great societies of today are built on top of the high-tech archaeological ruins from the civilization before The Collapse of one, or many Collapses.

September: Save reality again and again in The STRANGE Anthology!

Not one, but THREE thrilling Saturdays in September and October we're bringing you A STRANGE Anthology. You'll have three chances to change the destiny of the universe as you travel through "recursions" (alternate realities). Play as one group of investigators that adopts new personas with each jump. It's like The X-files meets Sliders meets Quantum Leap!

Each game will be run by a different game master, completely independently so as to offer a different feel to each reality. Here's a taste of what wild world-hopping is in store:

September 10

OUT OF THE BLUE, INTO THE BLACK
It begins as you, neophyte agents of the Estate, find yourselves adrift in a heretofore unexplored recursion, known to it's inhabitants as Blue Prime. What mysteries await you on an alien shore? Surf's up.

October 1

AT THE EDGE OF EARTH'S SHOALS
Travel to the edge of Earth's Shoals that appears to be influenced by alien minds from elsewhere in The Strange--a planet who's own shoals overlap ours. A world where magic and science are indistinguishable.

October 15

THE RIGHTWISE KING
The final leap brings you and your companions face to face with evil personified. One who gave everything to have their revenge on reality.

Join us and play THE STRANGE as it was meant to be played!

NEW BANNER ART!

So long old banner...you didn't look like
much but you had it where it counted.
Yesterday, we retired our old masthead (a hastily made one using MS Paint!) in favor of this incredible new art by illustrator Bill Hauser. He had the arduous task of pulling together something wild, wooly, and as kitchen-sink as the varied games we run.

What he turned in was exactly the cornucopia of space-y imagination we needed. Feast your optics on this:

I told Bill it had to have the usual astronomical suspects (haunted planets, galactic gasses streaming, spacecraft and starbases, etc.) but I wanted some beasts (kosmic kaiju!) in there as well. He outdid himself. And then he went and gave the title a super slick arcade screen effect, as if the lines in the  onscreen version of the logo had been burned in from inside a cathode ray tube display. SO. COOL.

And that endless ocean of stars. ADDED. BY. HAND.

Expect to see this art on new flyers, posters, my car, my bedroom ceiling, the inside of my eyelids, and other swag as we welcome more players and game masters to our little corner of the multiverse.

Way to go Bill!

Face a fleet of "undead" battlecruisers in YESTERDAY'S ARMAGEDDON!

Rev up your rocket cycle--something wicked this sector comes! Game Master  Matt Towle has planned a swashbuckling space adventure full of far-flung flavor and gonzo imagination, called: YESTERDAY'S ARMAGEDDON! Matt will run the Cypher System, a fantastic story-based set of rules by Monte Cook Games. If you're new to Cypher, this is a great chance to get your feet wet. And if you're an experienced Cypher gamer, you'll have a blast!

MISSION DETAILS:
Science Research Moonbase Lambda Seven, located on the airless moon of Harmony orbiting the spectacular gas giant Coronado 7, has been left in peace for months. Even the Junk Pirates that tried to pillage the moonbase time and again have not paid you a visit. The only time you have to dust off the SC104 Thunderbolt moonhoppers is when your cabin fever overwhelms your good sense.

But something is coming. The mistakes of your ancestors gave rise to the Vampire Fleets of legend. And legend has it that the ancient, autonomous, unstoppable battlecruisers of old were all destroyed during the war that destroyed the First Terran Empire. All the Artificial Intelligences were blown to dust, their inhuman, remorseless fury converted to base molecules in the worst conflict in human history. It is possible that the legends are wrong.

Your tranquil existence on the edge of known space is about to change forever.

Take your protein pills and put your helmet on!
ABOUT THIS GAME
No experience is needed to play, but if you're an experienced Cypher, Numenera, or The Strange player you might be interested in the following:
  • A Cypher System sci-fi adventure, players will be journeyman scientists, technical support staff, or dilettante relatives of Professor Gillespie, the director of the Moonbase.
  • Tier 1 characters. No advanced computer skills (now a lost science), no nano-tech, no psi powers.
  • Space vehicles use high-efficiency reaction thrusters (i.e., rockets) and interstellar travel takes weeks and is expensive and therefore, rare.
  • Players can expect to engage in exciting space battles, boarding actions, and be tested by a foe unseen by human eyes for centuries.
